If you could change one thing on our website ( or app what would it be? Why?


If I could change one thing about, it would be to improve the user experience with advertisements + showcase categories of content through a seamless website interface that stays true w/ Buzzfeed’s brand. Both of these improvements are designed to still hit advertising + content exposure goals for users.


Survey + Personal Anecdotes

I surveyed [10] friends who regularly use Buzzfeed; their reasons for using the platform were: [1] always finding new and interesting content [2] great cooking videos, and [3] loving content from Buzzfeed News. Their frustrations with the platform were: [1] clunky advertisements that felt forced and [2] an overwhelming website interface. From a personal perspective, I also noticed how certain ads took up inefficient amounts of space on-screen [IE square advertisements would take up an entire horizontal strip on the page].

Synthesizing Data

Buzzfeed’s current advertisements are appealing in content, but not quite integrated seamlessly into the platform. I aimed to create a new user advertisement experience that showcased advertisements that were more integrated into the website design. I also further organized categories of content to help improve the overall User Interface. Lastly, I made sure to showcase trending content first since users love Buzzfeed for their new and interesting content. Below you can see the visualization of my research.
